Community Supported Agriculture: The Greenway Table

Support the soil in this city! If you have not heard, the Greenway Table is hosting

 Community Supported Agriculture for the season.

Community supported agriculture (CSA) connects you, the consumer, directly with your food's producer. Your money is benefiting our organization and contributing to the education of the community about the importance of food choice and local, sustainable agriculture.

Join us- spots are filling fast! For $500, you get 21 weeks of vegetables from the Greenway Table. Beginning in June, you get a box of vegetables from our garden each week. The box will match our harvest and an abundance or shortage in the field will be reflected in your box (you will always get your veggies but some weeks' boxes will be more full than others). Greens, lettuce and spinach in June but tomatoes, squash and peppers in August. We also have a workshare option: 5 hrs/wk for a CSA box.

The pick up will be at the 5Points Market in downtown Cleveland on Thursdays from 4-6. There are three payment options:

1) pay $100 sign up fee and $400 by April 15,

2) pay $100 sign up fee, $250 by April 15 and $160 by June 15, (10 extra for layaway option)

3) pay in full $500

Checks can be payable to the Greenway Table and mailed to PO Box 5382 Cleveland,TN or brought to the garden during the week, OR you can pay online at the website via paypal.

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people (generally, $49,000 and below) who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers receive training provided by the IRS to help prepare basic tax returns. All returns are filed electronically (e-file); all services are offered free of charge. Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper – even faster when tax refunds are deposited directly into one's bank account.

Bradley Baptist Association’s volunteers will primarily seek to assist individuals and families with limited English proficiency. Preparers at this site are fluent in Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian. All other sites will assist English-speakers only.

Hoops 4 Hope

On Saturday, February 5th, Lee University will be hosting their 2nd Annual Hoops 4 Hope Autism Awareness Basketball Games. Both teams will be playing Emmanuel College. The women's game begins at 5 PM and the men's game will follow at 7 PM. The basketball program is selling Hoops for Hope T-Shirts for $8.00 with all the proceeds going toward LUDIC (a school for autistic children that works with students from all surrounding local school systems). The t-shirts are a beautiful Raider blue. If you are interested in a t-shirt, you can purchase one at the game.Currently, both adult and children's sizes are available. Thank you for supporting Hoops 4 Hope and LUDIC.

Cleaning for a Reason Resource:

If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service. This organization serves the entire USA and currently has 547 partners to help these women. It's our job to pass the word and let them know that there are people out there that care.

Tuesday Nov. 16 from 4 PM until 7 PM
You can pick up your child's official progress report from his or her first period teacher during conferences.

The dates for finals are Thursday, Dec. 16 and Friday, Dec. 17. Unfortunately, we will not be able to make exceptions to these dates and there are no exemptions from final exams.

Senior Parents: Seniors who signed up and missed having pictures made on August 26th, due to the power outage, will have them made on October 7th. Prestige by Lifetouch will also be here Oct. 29th and Nov. 3rd. If your senior needs to have his/her picture made they may see Mrs. Lovelace to sign up for a time. Formal pictures for the yearbook MUST be taken by Prestige by Lifetouch or it WILL NOT be in the yearbook.

TREK Program at The Teen Learning Center

TREK Stresses the Need For Education

TREK Adventures held “Camp TLC” Aug. 25 at Camp Ocoee for Teen Learning Center students. TREK (Teaching Responsibility and Educating Kids) addresses the need for education that prevents tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse, while instilling the knowledge and skills necessary for students to become responsible, productive citizens. This activity provided students a fun experience, learning opportunities, and shared memories to gear up for a successful year at the TLC. “Camp TLC” was an idea of Cliff Eason, TLC principal, who wanted to “create an opportunity that would build relationships between staff members and students.” Additionally, this experience was designed to introduce students to community partners participating in the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Grant. Through creative play and exploration, students worked together in small groups gaining a knowledge of nature. Some student sessions included rock climbing, canoeing, hiking and fishing. There was also a student session on art, pet, and alcohol and drug therapy.Blair Deacon, TLC counselor and TREK program director, said, “This real-life classroom setting helps our students to foster an understanding and appreciation of nature, community and self.”The TLC has formed a coalition of youth-serving agencies and individuals to meet the needs of the alternative school populations of Cleveland and Bradley County school system students and their families. TREK incorporates cultural diversity training for students and families, while addressing gender-specific needs utilizing art and animal-assisted therapy and life-skills training. The target population for the TREK program is youth ages 12-18 (grades 6-12) who have been identified by the Juvenile Court, or by a school system, as being at high risk for delinquent behavior, and who attend school in an alternative school setting (The Teen Learning Center/GOAL Academy). These high-risk students may have truancy issues, poor academic performance, or behavioral problems at school, home or within the community.Deacon said that Manufacturers Chemicals, Cleveland City Schools Director Dr. Rick Denning (and his wife, Evelyn), Cleveland Family YMCA, Camp Ocoee and the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth made Camp TLC possible through their financial support.

Please make plans to attend the Community College Fair on September 14th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Walker Arena on the campus at Lee University. We are fortunate to have the schools visit the Cleveland area, and we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Join Hospice of Chattanooga, Inc. and Helping Paws Healing Hearts for a once in a lifetime, two-day camp deesigned to help children and teens cope with the death of a loved one. Hospice of Chattanooga counselors are experienced and educated in grief management. They provide unconditional love and a safe environment, where young people can freely express emotions many of their peers cannot understand.

Art, music, pets, and playtime are just a few of the activities Healing Hearts will feature. Parents and guardians of campers are encouraged to get involved, too. Healing Hearts will host a special adult therapy session Saturday from 8:00-11:00.

Healing Hearts is offered at no cost to the camper. Hospice will provide dinner friday night, lunch saturday, and snacks along the way. Only children who have endured the death of a relative or close friend are invited to enroll.

How Do I get a Tennessee Learner's Permit???

How do I get my Learner's Permit???

For the issuance of a Tennessee Learner Permit:
· Must be at least 15 years of age
· Pass a standard vision screening.
· Pass the Class D knowledge exam. Practice exams are available online.
· If you are under the age of 18, you will also need to have:

* A parent or legal guardian (with proof of guardianship) present to sign a minor/teenage affidavit and financial responsibility form.
* Show proof of school attendance/progress from a current Tennessee school or a letter from the school in your previous state that confirms your attendance and satisfactory progress during enrollment in that school. This letter must be signed and dated by the principal or guidance counselor no more than 30 days prior to your Tennessee application.
· Provide all required documentation.

Proof of School Attendance
Applicants under the age of 18 must prove they are enrolled in school and making satisfactory progress. If they have already graduated, they must bring their high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with them when they apply. If not, they need to ask their school to complete a Certificate of Compulsory School Attendance and take the original part of this form with them to a driver license station. The form is valid for only 30 days.

If a student fifteen years of age or older drops out of school or fails to make satisfactory academic progress, the school is required to notify the Department of Safety. This suspends the student's driving privileges. The first time a student drops out, he or she may regain the privilege to drive by returning to school and making satisfactory academic progress. There is no second chance, however. The second time a student drops out he or she must wait to turn 18 years old before being eligible to apply.

“Job corps is the only Federal Scholarship of its kind for young adults under the age of 25. The scholarship includes two years of vocational, academic, and social skills training in addition to clothing, housing, food, equipment, basic medical and dental care, and even a small amount of pocket money every two weeks. Successful students can leave with an academic diploma vocational certification, a driver’s license, and the social skills that all employers desire in a new employee.”
